Light of the World – Comment by Chris Collins

As I write this, Halloween is approaching, once again the themes of light and darkness will be coming to the fore in many churches.

St C’s is no different, with both ‘Angels and Heroes’ and ‘Craft Cafe’ being themed upon Jesus being a bringer of light – indeed, Jesus is the light of the world.

The wonderful thing however is that we get to bask in that light. As Paul says in Ephesians ‘Wake up, O sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you’ (5:14, NIV).

From time to time you may have heard testimonies of people coming to faith who shared how the witness of a Christian’s life was significant in their coming to faith in Christ for themselves. I know I have.

Of course, we need to share the good news verbally, but seeing something different in Christians is something that we want others to experience also, that they may see the light of Christ reflected in the believers they know.

Brothers and sisters, we are saved by grace, but from that point onwards God wants to transform us by his Spirit – so that Jesus’ light may be reflected in us for all to see.

Yours in Jesus
Chris
